Golden homemade waffles ready for breakfast

Crispy Make-Ahead Freezer Waffles

These make-ahead freezer waffles are crisp around the edges, tender in the center, and designed for busy mornings. Make a batch when you have a few extra minutes, cool them completely, and freeze them so breakfast is only a toaster away.

The trick is a little cornstarch for crispness plus whipped egg whites for a lighter texture. Cook them slightly less than usual if you plan to freeze them, because reheating will finish the browning.

Why You’ll Love Them

  • Freezer-friendly for quick breakfasts
  • Crisp outside and fluffy inside
  • Made with basic pantry ingredients
  • Reheat well in a toaster, air fryer, or oven

Ingredient Notes

All-purpose flour gives the waffles structure, while cornstarch helps the exterior crisp. Separating the eggs and folding in softly whipped whites keeps the batter light. Neutral oil works best because it does not compete with the vanilla flavor.

How to Make Freezer Waffles

Whisk the dry ingredients in one bowl. In another, combine the milk, oil, egg yolks, and vanilla. Stir the wet and dry mixtures together just until combined. Beat the egg whites to soft peaks, then gently fold them into the batter.

Cook in a preheated waffle iron until lightly golden. Transfer each waffle to a wire rack instead of stacking them, which helps steam escape and keeps the bottoms from turning soft.

Freezing and Reheating

Cool the waffles completely before freezing. Store them in a freezer-safe bag for up to several months. Reheat directly from frozen in a toaster, in an air fryer at 350°F for a few minutes, or in a 350°F oven until crisp and hot.
