Air Fryer Grilled Cheese Sandwich
Air fryer grilled cheese is a fast 10-minute lunch or snack with crisp golden bread and a perfectly melted cheese center. The air fryer gives both sides even browning with very little hands-on cooking.
Use thick-cut bread so the sandwich stays sturdy, and pair cheddar with another good melting cheese for the best texture. Browse more quick meals in our Quick & Easy Recipes collection.
Best Bread and Cheese
Thick white bread, sourdough, or artisan sandwich bread works well. For the filling, sharp cheddar gives classic flavor while Monterey Jack, Swiss, provolone, Havarti, or Gruyère add extra meltiness.
How to Make Grilled Cheese in the Air Fryer
Butter the outside of the bread, place cheese between the slices, and secure the sandwich with a toothpick if your air fryer has strong airflow. Cook at 370°F until golden, flipping once halfway through.
Tips for the Best Texture
- Use thicker bread so it does not dry out
- Use freshly sliced cheese for smoother melting
- Cook in a single layer
- Check early because air fryers brown at different speeds
